Pierre Omidyar is the founder and Chairman of eBay, the online auction giant. Mr. Omidyar is the single largest shareholder at eBay, with an 8% stake. However, he is not involved in the day to day operations at the company. In late 2013, Mr. Omidyar also launched First Look Media, a company that aimed at presenting new approaches to independent journalism. With a $250 million pledge from Omidyar, First Look launched its first ever digital magazine, known as‘The Intercept’, in February 2014, featuring work from the popular investigative journalist, Glenn Greenwald. Mr. Omidyar spends time on his philanthropic investment firm, Omidyar Network, and is a member of the Giving Pledge. Omidyar and his wife have recently funded campaigns against human trafficking, including a $115 million funding for United Foundation, which bankrolls up to 85 nonprofits that seek to stop modern-day slavery.
